Explorer Academy
Our police explorers are required to participate in two very rigorous academies.
The initial stage of training begins in the "pre academy" training module that is
hosted by our explorer staff and advisors. The "pre-academy" is a four-day
training module that is held on Saturdays prior to the basic explorer academy.
This phase of the training is very demanding and challenges the explorer mentally
and physically in a "moderate-stress" para-military environment. The core of the
" pre-academy training phase is to acclimate the explorer recruit to the para-military
structure of the basic police explorer academy, police department and the explorer post
#499. By far this is the most challenging phase of the exploring training experience
and is similar to military "boot-camp." The recruits are required to pass a written
exam and one final physical fitness qualification test prior to the admittance in the basic
academy.
The basic explorer academy is hosted by the East San Gabriel Valley R.O.P. Law
Enforcement Explorer Academy. The explorer recruit is required to participate in
sixteen Saturday training sessions that meet from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ( hours may vary).
Like the "pre-academy" , training module, the basic law enforcement explorer academy
is very demanding. The recruit must be physically fit and academically prepared to
successfully complete the program.
Our "pre-academy" has been very successful in preparing our explorer recruits for the
basic academy experience. After completing the basic academy the recruit is promoted
to police explorer and entitled to participate in all of the activities of our program.
